Processing Unit Certification
Processing is modification of raw agricultural products. Handling is selling, processing or packaging agricultural products. Organic processing and handling provides consumers with nutritious, high quality supplies of organic products and organic farmers with a market without compromise to the organic integrity of their products. Processing certification is necessary whenever an organic product is processed in some way or another, and needs to be labelled for marketing as organic. Minimal modification as part of normal on-farm post harvest handling is permitted without processing certification. Minimal modification includes washing, filtering, cleaning, and trimming, bagging, boxing or labelling of produce.
